Why pay union dues?
The easiest way to explain the concept of union dues is by using the example of a health club or gym membership. By only paying the dues to a gym, you will not improve your health, physique or get into shape. You pay your dues to get access to the tools you need to better your health, but your health will not improve until you actually exercise.
Union dues should be thought about in the same way. Your dues will give you access to expertise and resources vital to success in your job. But to see results, you must play an active part in the process. In order to actually make a difference in your workplace and working conditions, it must start with you!
Where do your dues go?
Your dues are broken into five pieces and sent to your Local Union, AFT-Wisconsin, the AFT (national), the AFL-CIO (national) and the regional AFL-CIO labor councils.
